Lake Ahead

Some builders are like movie directors. Like their creative counterparts they also scout around for hidden, breathtaking, landscape locations. Well-deserved accolades go to the director for the beautiful New Zealand locale in movies like the “The Lord of the Rings”. By not chopping the role of the environment in the movie the sensitive director has preserved it for posterity in reel time. The eco friendly builder too, is not far behind in displaying the environment. He pays respect to the trees that owned the land before him and grows the structure around it. The meandering balcony of the farmhouse follows the flow of the stream and the proud tree stands in the centre of an inner courtyard. With every sensitive director and green builder comes the bad twin. The B grade director and unscrupulous builder take the poetry out of their art. While one can escape the former, by racing to the nearest exit, the latter’s work is a permanent eyesore which spoils the landscape. Though harmless at first glance, alert environmentalists are now familiar with his stalking of deserted, beautiful, lonely, lakes. Operation land grabbing for a song is accomplished in a phased manner. Gradual dumping of garbage chokes and kills the lake till the dry bed is theirs to raise high rises. After the signboards were removed, lost directors and builders have been wandering about hawk-eyed to spot the few lakes left. Time for the conscious neighbors to be more vigilant!
